HRC Suspension Link.
The 04-05 model CBR1000RR rear suspension leaves a lot to be desired. It was designed primarily for two up riding.
Now, I do take the occasional passenger but 99 percent of the time I'm solo. So if you’re like me in the
130-180lb range the spring is to stiff and the suspension link is progressive adding to a real rough ride.

Ok so what is this HRC link anyway? Well it looks identical but it is set up to have linear damping
characteristics instead of the progressive damping of the stock link, which means its set up primarily
for one up riding.
The 04-05 model Honda Racing Corporation link cost about 300.00 US. Now here is where it gets interesting.
The HRC link is now the stock link on the 06-07 models, so if you check on e-bay you will find the 06 shock
and link from time to time for 50.00 to 100.00 US.
Replacing the stock link and shock with the 06 link and shock will transform your bike. One of the best
mods I ever did.
To change out the link you will need the following tools. 14mm & 17mm wrench, 14mm & 17mm socket,
8mm alan head socket, 3/8 ratchet, torque wrench and a floor jack.
This job can be performed by one person (I did it) but it would be a great deal easier with a helper.
Removing the right side fairing is not required but makes it easier to remove the shock, if you’re planning on doing
the link and shock. Instructions on removing the fairing can be found in the oil change article on this site.

The first thing you have to do is un-spring the rear suspension.
Place the floor jack under the oil pan,
then place a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan so you don’t damage it.
Raise the bike until the wheel is almost off the ground. The trick here is we just want to unload the suspension,
this way the bolt attaching the dog bone to the frame will slide out easily.

Remove the frame to link nut with the 8mm alan head socket and 17mm wrench. You have to
reach under the bike to hold one end while you turn the other this is why another person is helpful.
Then gently tap and pull out the bolt.

Use the 14mm wrench and the 17mm socket to remove the lower shock absorber nut.
