Air filter Maintenance.

Honda recommends replacement of the air filters every 12,000 miles (19,000 kilometers) or even sooner depending on how dusty your climate is.

Filters

Honda Air filters are not cheap and not re-usable. So I opted to replace my filters with BMC Race air filters, they cost a little more but they are washable. BMC makes 2 versions for the CBR1000RR, street and race both are washable.

I went with the race for 2 reasons. They weight half a pound less that stock and they actually add a couple of horses to boot.

So lets get to it. To change out the filters you'll need a rachet, 6 inch extension, 5mm alan head socket and a philips screw driver.

Seat Screw

With your hand fold over the rear corners of the seat, this will expose the two 5mm hex pan head screws that hold the seat on. Remove the bolts then grab the seat from the back and pull it away from the rear.

Remove the two tank cover inserts that are held on with one 5mm hex pan head screw each.

Air install

When installing new OEM filters make sure the filters and air box tabs line up. The BMC filters do not have this tab so for the BMC's you dont have to worry about it.
Gas overflow

That's it your done. Just follow the instructions in reverse order to put it back together. Just one note, when you raised the tank, the gas overflow was disconnected make sure the hose is not kinked and is re-connected properly.
